Auction time in Holland.

This is 'Alkmaar Veilinghuis', they have auctions five times a year, again I wish my suitcase was bigger.
A few years ago I filled up a container with furniture and had it shipped to Dubai and now my house is filled to the rim.
I will post some pictures of my home so you can see for yourself just how full it is...

Walking through Lyon.
As you can see I'll be due back in December.

Anais, my beautiful granddaughter

Just in time for her second birthday party.

Next, France to visit my daughter

This was at a fair in Lyon, all the streets were lined with stalls and I had a blast!
It's a pity I had a 20 kg. luggage limit.

From Holland we drove about six hours by car to Lubeck, Germany.
We stayed there for two days and it rained the whole time.
Lubeck is famous for it's Marzipan and here is a shop that displays little houses made of it.

Some more pictures

Here are a few flower shops in Alkmaar.

just checking in...

i keep having the best of intentions to record our comings & goings and for some reason it has never been more difficult for me to grab a moment to do just that.

a lot is going on.
a lot of great things {the Lord is good & He is at work}  i am humbled daily by the awesome plans of the our awesome Father.  i am so excited about the way He is changing my heart & about the ways He is moving in the lives of students at lafayette.

speaking of ministry, if you've ever wondered why a couple in their mid-twenties constantly spends time with high schoolers and then insists on reiterating their love for kids over and over via blog you need to watch this...

a lot of hard things are going on.  with family. with friends.  with little girls.  hard things are hard.

my great-grandma  passed away this past weekend at 102 years old.  she was a believer and has a huge family that loved her dearly.  the funeral tomorrow will be a celebration, a celebration of her life and a celebration of the kingdom.

on a much less important note {especially when compared to ministry and the lives of great women} i chopped off all my hair.  i only have a mac pic thus far.  i feel too awkward just to take a picture of myself for the sole purpose of showing you my hair so that's what you get {for now}.

{i'm a tiny bit embarrassed by our messy room in the background but that's real life, just look at my excited face instead}

hope to be back soon...very soon.  what use is a journal that you don't record anything in?
love love-

New Scrap Quilt

I have no idea what this block is called.  I saw it in a magazine? book? some place.....and thought I could make this using scraps of fabrics.  I used 30  12" squares of each fabric, and cut it up to get enough to make a quilt top.  If it turns out ok, I will make up a kit with the pattern.

This is the pile of old, old fabrics, all cut and ready to go.  I chose dark, medium and lights to give a good contrast

This is the first set of 4 blocks made.  I will set them like this - alternating light and dark outers.

Snowflake Quilt

I decided to go with the striped border.  Can't resist a stripe or one way design.  I always buy them if I see them on sale.

Western Cupcake

These photos are from last weekend. My cousin was in town visiting some friends so Ashley of Opheliac and I met up with her for a mid afternoon snack at a pub up-town. I wanted to wear my new suede wedges so badly, but it rained all week. I decided to give them a extra good dose of protective spray and braved the weather. They held up quite nicely. JP had been doing some renovations at this school a couple weeks ago, so it was fun to take some shots there.

I am so far behind on blogging right now! My birthday week really set me back. I have some photos of my Mama Mia outfit, and a couple photos of my outfit from my birthday date night with JP.
coat - Orb, cardigan - American Eagle, tanktop - Wilfred,

My birthday was pretty awesome. The last couple of years I made sure that I took work off, but this year I ended up working. I arrived at work to balloons and an adorable card from some of my co-workers. Later in the morning I went into a meeting and the girls had Crave cupcakes and and spinach dip. Yum! The rest of the workday was a breeze. I was in another extra long meeting where we were provided with amazing fruit and salads to snack on, and then in the afternoon some girls that I work with and I had a mini party at my desk. After work was Mama Mia, which was amazing. In the words of my little sister "It was well worth being tired the next day!"
Crave Cupcakes!!

Beyond the Cherry Trees - Block 12

I have managed to keep up with all my committments this month, including the latest Cherry Tree Block.  It was a bit more difficult than some of the previous blocks.  So many little fingers, and ins and outs!  I got very good at those curves by the time I have finished the 20th (or what ever it was) oak leaf or flower.  So, we are just about half way done with the blocks.  I could stip now, and have something really nice to make into a quilt top, but can't wait to see what is to come!

The first few bits on fabric placed on the front of the fabric - it looks nothing like the finished result.  Takes a while to get the idea of what is happening.  When I am teach applique th students take a while to catch on to what is happening.

The picture is all drawn on the back of the fabric.  I think you can see where some pieces are tacked in place.

Snowflake quilt top

I am desperate to use up my fabrics!  I have so much, and decided that I need to make some scrappy, easy cutting quilts.  The first one is the Snowflake, or Album Cross quilt.

All the blocks are finished and I sashed it with this lovely blue fabric, with a red print.  After it was done I started to think it looked awfully familiar to me.  Guess what!  My mind had remembered it from this book.

One of my favourite books for inspiration.

Now for the final border - I think I like the stripe best, but the brown, with teal and red goes with it as well.  I think I will play with it a bit more.

Now I need more inspration  -   maybe a Chinese Coin??
